L'water is the substance that makes up the 65% in our bodies, hence its importance to our bodies. But what is the right amount of water to take and why is it so important to drink?

During the hottest times of the year, our bodies tend to lose fluids more quickly, so it is good to keep our bodies hydrated with at least 2/2.5 litres of water per day, which corresponds to approximately 10 glasses. If you are an athlete or in any case like to stay fit even in the summer, it is then recommended to increase this threshold to 3.5 to 4 litres, as you sweat a lot and need to replenish fluid loss.

It can happen that, when temperatures are very high, the sensation of thirst and the desire to drink water is reduced, so in order to replenish our body's fluids, an alternative could be the intake of flavoured water, infusions or cold herbal teas. In addition, food should not be neglected, you can in fact hydrating by eating; seasonal vegetables are our perfect ally. In fact, carrots, cucumbers, fennel, lettuce, celery and radishes not only contain excellent vitamins and properties, but also a very high percentage of water. Of course, fruit should also be mentioned: seasonal fruit is absolutely to be preferred. Watermelon, melon and peach, for example, contain 95% of water and valuable minerals for the body.

Tip to get our children to take in more water: make popsicles of water and pieces of fruit of their choice.

Benefits of drinking a lot

We must pay attention to the signals that our body sends us when it senses a lack of water. Lack of water consumption and dehydration can lead to many physical imbalances such as fainting, feeling unwell, dizziness, reduced attention and cognitive abilities as well as worsening of vital functions.

Otherwise, there are countless benefits that a correct water intake. In addition to replenishing fluids lost due to hot temperatures, it transports nutrients, helps expel waste substances, hydrates muscles while preserving their mass, and enables the transmission of brain stimuli. In addition, regular water intake enables all physiological processes in the body to function properly, including digestion and nutrient absorption.

It also benefits tissue, skin and hair and is also essential for hydrating the brain.

In contrast to dehydration, of course, proper hydration enables an individual to maintain their attention levels as well as preserve their mental clarity and cognitive abilities by reacting correctly to stimuli.

Water to combat water retention

Water is also good for the feeling of fullness, slimming and water retention.

The latter, in medicine, refers to the tendency of our body to retain fluids in certain areas of the body, which, when stagnating, form swellings as well as fluid accumulations and weight gain or fluctuations.

Water in this case helps combat water retention as it increases diuresis and stimulates the elimination of excess fluid. Ideally, it should be an oligomineral water low in sodium whose dissolved ion concentration does not exceed 20 mg/L and whose fixed residue is between 80 and 500 mg/L.

In addition to water, a great way to combat water retention are the medical aesthetic treatments. Among those we offer the most suitable are:

  • Cryosculpturewith lipolytic and diuretic purposes;
  • Velasmoothstimulating and firming;
  • Pressotherapyideal for combating fluid stagnation.
