Anticellulite

Cellulite is a disease, an inflammatory process affecting the tissues that, if left untreated, will worsen over time.
Cellulite mainly affects women; in fact, 8 out of 10 women suffer from it in a more or less severe form. Cellulite is due to several causes, which are often associated with each other such as, mainly, a poor diet 2, a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, microcirculation disorders, the use of certain medications, excessively tight clothing, so cellulite is a disorder that must be tackled on several fronts and taking various aspects into consideration. Often localised fat, i.e. so-called 'fat pads', overweight and obesity, are associated with cellulite, but not necessarily; in fact, we can frequently see normal-weight or thin people suffering from cellulite, just as we can see cellulite on the thighs or other areas of the body of people who practise sport, even on a massive scale, despite being normal-weight and muscular.

At MedikalBeauty Institute, we carry out an in-depth analysis on each person to find the best all-round solution and resolve this complex pathology, which is why it is important to carry out the preliminary checkup in experienced hands, to avoid wasting time and money on unsuitable systems.

The following are some indications that may be useful to you but in no way replace a personalised in-depth checkup in your presence at your nearest institute.

How does cellulite manifest itself?

Cellulite manifests itself in four different ways depending on the level of severity:

  1. It cannot be seen, except by squeezing the affected area with your fingers and in particularly bright conditions.
  2. Light shadows, relief marks and cellulite lumps drawn on the skin can be glimpsed.
  3. The fat pressing against the skin fibres forms small bumps, making the epidermis rough and creating the classic orange peel skin.
  4. It presents holes and knots, there is a thickening of the subcutaneous tissue and an increase in the consistency of the entire skin, and loss of elasticity.

Depending on the level of severity, the symptomatology, in addition to the more or less obvious outward appearance, is perceived differently by the sufferer and is usually characterised by a feeling of weight and tiredness in the legs, tingling in the toes, easy bruising, muscle pain and local changes in the capillaries.

The areas where cellulite is most commonly located are: buttocks, thighs, belly, calves and arms.

Did you know that there are three types of cellulite?

Yes, there are three types of cellulite, let us see their classification:

Compact cellulite

generally located on the upper and outer thighs and buttocks; generally present in very young girls.

Soft cellulite

generally located in the inner thighs and arms; usually present in women over 30.

Oedematous cellulite

related to disorders of the venous circulation; usually affects the lower limbs.

    MEDIKALBEAUTY INSTITUTE RECOMMENDS

    Below you will find some general tips for combating cellulite from a dietary point of view 2however, reminding you of the importance of assessing your individual case, and therefore renewing the invitation to carry out the preliminary checkup at your nearest MedikalBeauty Institute centre.
    In the presence of cellulite, we recommend

    • Drink plenty of water, as the human body is 90% composed of water and when it is not sufficiently hydrated, as a 'defence mechanism' it retains water that accumulates in the extracellular spaces causing swelling, especially in the extremities of the body;
    • Consume lots of fruit and vegetables, which are rich in water, both to purify the body and to provide vitamins and minerals;
    • Consume foods containing potassium to promote diuresis, such as bananas, melons, kiwis, dried fruit, brewer's yeast, asparagus, garlic, leeks and pineapple, which has an anti-inflammatory effect;
    • Frequently consume the noble proteins, mainly contained in white meat and eggs, because they contribute to muscle development. Since they are lean, proteins force the body to take energy from fat cells, generally aiding metabolism.
    • Consume iron-rich foods, such as lentils. Iron helps transport oxygen in the blood. A drop in iron levels can cause fatigue, difficulty concentrating and some anaemias;
    • Avoid or at least limit smoking and alcohol as much as possible;
    • Limit the use of nerve drinks such as tea and coffee, which can act negatively on the nervous system and if used in excess can cause toxicity and gastrointestinal irritation, as well as inhibit the assimilation of certain vitamins.
    • Limit fatty, salty foods, spicy sauces, gravies and fried foods. Instead, take care of your intake of essential fatty acids (EFA);
    • Limit sweets and refined sugars and high glycaemic index carbohydrates at times of hypoglycaemia;
    • Consume fish and seafood, which contain numerous fatty acids, including the famous omega 3, salmon being particularly rich in them. These foods have anti-inflammatory virtues and do not swell the tissues;
    • Give preference to foods rich in vitamins A-C-E; vitamin A counteracts the loss of elasticity of connective tissue, vitamin C contributes to its synthesis by strengthening the walls of blood and lymph vessels, and hinders oedema and venous stasis in the lower limbs, while vitamin E promotes the regeneration and restructuring of connective tissue. Let's not forget the B vitamins, because they contribute, among other things, to the rebalancing of intestinal bacterial flora.
    • Include high-fibre foods such as pasta or brown rice in your diet, as the right amount of fibre will promote peristalsis and intestinal functions.

    A healthy and balanced diet with the right balance of elements important to you, adapted to your life and work requirements, taking into account any allergies and intolerances, and aimed at anti-cellulite and slimming goals and remise en forme in general will be structured by our MedikalBeauty Institute experts with a customised programme combined with specific medical aesthetic treatments aimed at achieving your goals 1.
